Knowledgeboard Membership Worldwide
30-Mar-04
These numbers are for total registered members per country. Click on the links to view entry listings by country in our Who's Who directory.
The top 5 countries (in terms of membership numbers) are the UK with 2,364, France (860), The USA (838), Germany (754) and Italy (688).
This list analyses ALL our members, but only about one third of these people have chosen to be listed in the Who's Who directory. Therefore it is possible that if you click on the links below, you will not find the same number of members as are listed here - for countries where we have members but no Who's who entries, you will not get any result.
Our Who's Who directory is voluntary function so does not contain a profile for every registered member in the database. If you haven't added a record yet - why not add one today?

number of members
I suppose all of the records has counted two times. There is no probability that all 'number of members' is an even number.
Pakistan - the least 'connected-on-line-country'
KB index show presence of 30 Pakistanis, while there are only 11 profile as of date.
The same is for other Online Networks. 'Connect2Pakistan'Club aims at facilitating online access and offer free membership to those interested in becoming members. A greater online interaction should promote understanding within a cross-cultural melieu.

Chris is right!
Take the three first countries on the list by alphabetical order: Afghanistan, Albania, Algeria.
They are not that familiar to a number of people who think the centre of the world is elsewhere. But what a surprise: when you click on the name of one of those three you do not get to any member!
But let's not be paranoid! Inch Allah!
3 different populations per country
Has there been any progress on this commitment made by Helen in December 2002:
I am looking into providing code that can be used in SIGs for example that will pull up a list of all Who's who listings in a particular country. Coming soon...
Also I still dont understand variation in country numbers- when I click eg Finland in the article content of this thread I undesryand why I get less (34) than the 100+ members registered in Finland (because of privacy choices) but I dont understand when I go to who's who and search by country I only get 11 people in Finland
updating of country members profile
Dear hellen,
I am new comer for knowledgeboard. i am really happy to be memeber. my comment is would you update the country members profile to enable us communicate each other and share ideas.
Thanks
KnowledgeBoard as a sponsor
Dear Paolo,
I think that your question was about getting the right to mention KnowledgeBoard as a sponsor for your event? A moral support only.
If your activities are aligned with the KnowledgeBoard activities and spirit, I think we all will be happy that you mention KnowledgeBoard as a sponsor.
By the way do you know that there is an Italian Zone- in italian_ on KnowledgeBoard.
You can use the zone to communicate with all the italian members around your interests.
Good luck with your activities!
-Anne
You can add event to our directory yourself
If you apply for events admin access from our directory by clicking on 'Add an event.' You can then edit and make amends to your entries.

Can we put KM trademark as supporter ( no cost) of La Storia nel Futuro Genoa 2004 project??
Dear Helen, my question of a new member is: I am the coordinator of a communication project named La Storia nel Futuro ( History in the Future )born in Italy ( Verbania-Lake Maggiore)in 98. With this brand , that is now an Association voted to promote e diffuse local culture ( entrepreneurial, historical, environmental, it's depend from the plus of the town where we apply the project) I made 5 projects ( each ,from five to 12 workshop of 2 hours, in the evening in a significant site -technopark, museum, reconverted factory) from 1998 to 2002 in Piedmont and Tuscany towns.
The next challenge is the sixth project in Genoa , 12 workshops from october 2003 to june 2004, to valorize the actual entrepreneurial capacity of ligurian people by means of testimonials coming from different sectors. Genoa is one of the European Capitals for Culture in 2004, and our project, supported by all local Administrations and three italian Ministry ( Innovation, Industry , University), is part of the celebrations of the year. You can find the program on the site www.storianelfuturo.org , unfortunately stil in italian, if you need more information please ask. thank in advance
Expats
Dear Lilia,
I have to admit I am somehow in the same situation. I live in Finland, I have my family and my jobe here, but significant part of my heart belongs to Romania. I would like to be counted for both countries, if possible. I agree with you that language and knowledge on our origin and destination countries assure an usuful knowledge productive mix!
I will be updating these figures soon
...as we now have more members worldwide than these figures reflect. I can get the other data that you have asked for but it will take some time for me to collate. But the last newswire went to over 5,000 people, and we had 51,145 successful page requests last week. You can see the most popular articles on the hits page: http://www.knowledgeboard.com/hits.html
Updated figures
Helen, as I see the KnowledgeBoard community is actually growing fast... have you an estimation for May concerning the number of current members / number of visits per day / average number of downloads per week ?
If you have ... no problem to wait until you plan to do it.
Warmly.
Location/country
Helen,
as I know many of KB members are expats: born in one country and working in another. I believe that knowing that someone is an expat adds value: you can be more sensitive about cultural/language issues and you can target people from your own country somewhere else.
So far there are no instruments to indicate this in the profile. I wonder if they would add value for more people...
Lilia
PS To be fair, I'd love to be counted under "Russia" rather then under "The Netherlands" even if I use "The Netherlands" in my profile to support contacts based on the physical proximity :)
About normalization of Who’s Who database terms
From what you have written understandable is “Country” with explanation “to indicate your current location”, because the terms “Location” and “Address” may have the same meaning.
If you place into profile form follows terms:
- Country (to indicate your current location),
- Address (with explanation of its meaning – for instance – as a mail address, as a visiting address, etc.) with subterms in accordance with your explanation – post code, country, city, etc.,
- Phone (with explanation of its format – to insert “-“ (555-55-55) or not, with international and local codes or without),
- Fax (the same explanation like the term “Phone” have),
if you let people to check or not to check “Yes” after “Country”, “Address”, “Phone”, “Fax”
and if you compel the database to indicate in its search report all above mentioned terms as specified or as unspecified in accordance with what people have checked “Yes” in their profile forms
we will get the understandable matching terms.
I think this part of terms normalization does not compel people to waste of time thinking and dreaming up about how to use terms in the profile form and what search report will indicate.
Another term perhaps?
I understand the word country to indicate your current location. Would location be a more understandable term?
About problem of not matching terms in the Who’s Who database
I think there is a problem of not matching terms in the Who’s Who database.
For example – a profile form has a field “Address” which includes a subfield “Country”, but Who’s Who search report has different fields “Address” and “Country”. When I check “Yes” in the “Include my address” updating my profile a field “Country” appears as specified in the search report. When I do not check “Yes” in the “Include my address” updating my profile a field “Country” appears as unspecified in the search report even if I want to make the field “Country” specified in the search report.
May be it is better to define the term “Country”- what does it mean in the Who’s Who database – country of living, country of birth, citizenship or something else? I think it makes clear variants of necessary corrections for evading eventuality of being misunderstood.
The numbers are different because....
Welcome Thea.
Olaf - I have amended the text to explain that this list is straight from our database of registered members. The searchable Who's Who directory is an opt in function so people will only be listed in there if they have decided to add a profile. Therefore not every member has a Who's Who record which is why the numbers do not match.
Scotland
Hello World!
Well it's my first posting here on the Knowledge Board - so be gentle. ;)
I am originally a Californian (Silicon Valley) now residing in Silicon Glen. I am a "mature" (which is debatable) student - studying E-business. One of our modules is Knowledge Management hence my reason for being here...I need inspiration for a huge and hellish report I am working on! ;)
Wearing another hat, I run a community-based website myself and find it amazing when we have members from all over the globe (at one point more than 50 countries were represented) who were expressing the exact same feelings and challenges...(sadly in my case it's a site for break-ups, but the feelings associated with them are truly universal and community is 100% one of empathy & support & fostering freindships and more!)
Here's to globalism and to feeling a part of a community whereever we are in the world.
Best wishes around this global village of ours,
Thea :)
?
your sig idea sounds interesting
I think I cannot have explained my idea clearly. I was only asking for the same information that get when I search by country but htmled into your table. Since the two produce equivalent information on my screen, I dont see data opt-in as an issue
Country searches
We won't be able to link directly to the full list of members, as a public profile in the Who's who directory has to be opted into due to data protection constraints.
I am looking into providing code that can be used in SIGs for example that will pull up a list of all Who's who listings in a particular country. Coming soon...
Per country
Is there some way that one can search per country? It will be handy if we wish to organize local activities.
links?
Helen
Is there a way that the content on this thread could be programmed to direct link to the lists of members. I am aware that we can go and use the who's who search to find out the equivalent info, but I always believe in one click once you've whetted someone's appetite to explore?
